Cacharreo:

Colombian-born Adriana Torres Topaga has now taken the way we deal with "clutter" as the theme for her artistic work. In Colombian, the word "cacharreo" means stuff or junk. The verb cacharrear refers to the act of experimentally repairing without expertise. It is also understood to mean cleaning up, rearranging, and "dusting" these discarded objects.

In reference to this cultural technique, the title of this artistic work is intended to lift things out of their everyday context and encourage reflection on consumption and its effects.

Adriana Torres Topaga

Visual artist, designer and researcher born in Bogotá, Colombia. She's a visual artist and designer based in Linz, Austria. Master degree as Industrial Designer from the Javeriana University of Bogotá, Master in Digitals Arts at the Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona and Master in space & design strategies at the University of Art and Design Linz. Some of my works show my fascination around the human body and the skin as a political space for questioning, ideals of gender, beauty, consumption, the private and public, and the relationship between new and low technologies around the human body. Other topics of my interests are art and collective and interdisciplinary creation, design and methodology, materials research, consume culture, up-cycling, and social impact of design and arts.

I also actively collaborate at the migrant association"maiz" - an autonomous center from and for migrantsin Linz, Austria as a graphic designer, member of the board of directors (2009-begins 2016) and recently escorting the project:"Life carries weight": A project on health and nutrition in the context of migration and social tensions. As coordinator of the cultural area of this association in 2019.

Combining some of my interests, I co-founded the platformLAB ON STAGEtogether with the performer Arnulfo Pardo, with the aim of exploring the relationship between body, space, movement, gestures, materials, techniques, as well the performance as a medium for interdisciplinary research and study of the creative process.

The Inner Drum:

Our body constantly produces the low humming symphony of our lives. Wipe off the sweat and listen. Your breath puffing in and out, the drumming of your heart, maybe even the blood rushing to bring oxygen to your head, the sound of your hair, the sound of swallowing your saliva. The solo displays the often only quiet or inaudible manifestations of the human body. Movement irritates the body to sound. A silent pattern of movement caring sound throughout the space.

A solo dance performance intervened with live music. A reflection, and a counterpoint to the silent objects and installations in the exhibition SILENT SOUND from the gallery Kunstraum Nestroyhof Wien (together with the artist Markus Hofer, Michael Kos, Georg Nussbaumer, Clara Oppel, Christoph Theiler) PResent in Sonnenstineloft for the performance.
