A!KO Tanz Fest presents: IN C - Intensive Lab & Open Level Workshops

A!KO  TANZ FEST was established to celebrate the 130th anniversary year of  diplomatic relations between Austria and Korea. The main purpose of the  festival is to introduce selected dance works through international  dance cooperation and  support emerging dance artists as well as creating added values and access to a local audience. 2024 A!KO  will offer workshops in cooperation with,  Mind of Move (Korea), Hwang Hwan Hee (Repertoire IN C by Sasha Waltz&Guests) and  the opportunity to showcase the results of the intensive research and workshops. 

In 2021, during the COVID-19 pandemic, the dance company Sasha Waltz & Guests began an innovative and continually evolving artistic process with "In C". The choreography to Terry Riley's music was shared with a growing dance community since its live stream premiere on March 6, 2021, reaching many viewers worldwide. Thanks to flexible production and international exchange through video tutorials, numerous "In C" projects have emerged.

Hwang Hwan Hee, born in Busan, South Korea, is a dancer and choreographer. She studied dance and fine arts at the Korea National University of Arts and worked with the LDP dance company in Seoul. After graduation, she choreographed for several theaters in Korea. In 2009, she moved to Berlin and began collaborating with Compagnie Sasha Waltz & Guests in 2012, contributing to many productions. Hwang develops interdisciplinary projects in Berlin and Seoul, focusing on collaborations with artists from various fields.

The Summer 2024 program features two main components:

A) Open Level - Dance Workshops > limited places to max. 10 paricipants OPEN LEVEL available

These  workshops, led by internationally renowned dance artists, are designed  for individuals with little to no dance experience who wish to deeply  explore various dance methods. Approximately half of the workshop slots  are already booked by international participants, but there are still  around 10 spots available for local enthusiasts. The cost of  participation is €400 for two intensive weeks of dance (workshops  running from 9:30 AM to around 3:00 PM with breaks). Participants will  also have the opportunity to contribute to the creation of a final  performance. It is possible to join for just the first week if  preferred.

B) Intensive Research >  4 Scholarships available!

In  this dance lab, we invite graduates of dance programs/universities as  well as professional dancers to engage in outcome-oriented dance  research. Hwang Hwan Hee will be traveling from Berlin to lead the  Intensive Dance Research Lab, working with the IN C repertoire. There  are up to 5 scholarships available for selected participants.  Applications for these scholarships are now open. Requirements include  professional dance training, a resume, and a short motivational letter.  The scholarship covers the cost of participation in the Intensive  Research for two weeks in Linz, Austria.

Sommer-Tanzworkshops & Intensive Resarch / Performance Entwicklung

Das Hauptziel der Plattform ist es, ausgewählte Tanzwerke durch internationale Tanzkooperationen vorzustellen, aufstrebende Tanzkünstler:innen zu unterstützen und internationalen Tanz auf vielen Ebenen einem lokalen Publikum näherzubringen. 2024 bietet A!KO Workshops in Zusammenarbeit mit Mind of Move (Korea), Hwang Hwan Hee (Repertoire IN C von Sasha Waltz & Guests) und weiteren Beteiligten an.

Mit "In C" startete die Tanzcompagnie Sasha Waltz & Guests 2021 während der COVID-19-Pandemie einen innovativen und sich stetig entwickelnden künstlerischen Prozess. Die Choreographie zur Musik von Terry Riley wurde seit der Livestream-Uraufführung am 6. März 2021 an eine wachsende Tanz-Community weitergegeben und hat weltweit viele Zuschauer erreicht. Dank flexibler Produktion und internationalem Austausch durch Video-Tutorials entstanden zahlreiche »In C«-Projekte.

Hwanhee Hwang, geboren in Busan, Südkorea, ist Tänzerin und Choreographin. Sie studierte Tanz und Bildende Kunst an der Korea National University of Arts und arbeitete mit der LDP Tanzkompanie in Seoul. Nach ihrem Abschluss choreographierte sie für mehrere Theater in Korea. 2009 zog sie nach Berlin und begann 2012 die Zusammenarbeit mit der Compagnie Sasha Waltz & Guests, bei der sie an vielen Produktionen mitwirkte. Hwang entwickelt interdisziplinäre Projekte in Berlin und Seoul und arbeitet dabei mit Künstler

aus verschiedenen Bereichen zusammen.

Das Programm im Sommer 2024 umfasst zwei Achsen:

 

A)  Open Level - Tanzworkshops mit internationalen Tanzkünstler:innen auf  sehr hohem künstlerischen Niveau, die zugänglich sind für Personen ohne  oder mit wenig Tanzerfahrung, die aber tief in diverse Tanzmethoden  eintauchen möchten. Die Hälfte des Workshops ist mit internationalen  Gästen bereits ausgebucht, es stehen für lokale Interessent:innen  aktuell noch ca. 10 Plätze zur Verfügung. Die Kosten der Teilnahme  belaufen sich auf 400 € für zwei intensive Tanzwochen (Workshops 9:30 -  ca. 15:00 durchlaufend mit Pausen), die Teilnahme an der Erarbeitung  einer Schlussvorstellung ist möglich. Es ist auch möglich nur eine Woche  teilzunehmen (1. Woche).

B)  Intensive Research - in diesem Tanzlabor laden wir Absolvent:innen von  Tanzausbildungen/Universitäten sowie professionelle Tänzer:innen ein am  ergebnisorientierten Dance Rearch teilzunehmen. Hwang Hwan Hee reist aus  Berlin dazu an und wird mit dem Repertoire von IN C das Intensive Dance  Research Lab begleiten. Für dieses Lab stehen maximal 4 Stipendien für  eine Auswahl an Beteiligten zur Verfügung. Die Bewerbung für diese  Stipendien ist ab sofort möglich. 

Voraussetzung: professionelle  Tanzausbildung, Lebenslauf, kurzes Motivationsschreiben. Das Stipendium  umfasst die kostenfreie Teilnahmeh am Intensive Research für die Dauer  von zwei Wochen in Linz, Österreich.
